AMHERST — Animals are being blamed for two incidents reported to Amherst Police Tuesday.

The first call came at 2:43 p.m. from a Woodside Avenue resident who suspected her home had been entered by an intruder after she she noticed the screen was cut to her kitchen door and items were moved around inside the dwelling.

Officers who responded to the home determined that all the damage was caused by some kind of animal that clawed its away inside, shredding the screen door, said Detective Marcus Humber.

A Village Park resident contacted police at 6:54 p.m. that the brake lines on her vehicle were maliciously cut.

Officers investigating discovered that the damage was caused by a squirrel that had chewed through the lines, Humber said.
