The Amherst Mickey Mantle baseball team won three elimination games Sunday at Ziomek Field to claim the Pioneer Valley Youth Baseball league championship.

In the final game against Dalton, the second time the teams played in a row in the double-elimination tournament, Amherst rallied form a 3-0 deficit with seven runs in the second inning and held on 7-4.

Judah Katz led off with a double followed by one-out walks from Nate Mills and Will Andresen. Thea Hanscom and Braedon Tudryn both walked to drive in runs.

Logan Dapprich had an RBI ground out. Evan Hu walked to re-load the bases. JB Mills laced a two-run double, and Katz singled to score him.

Owen Toal struck out the side in the seventh to clinch the title.

Amherst 6, Dalton 1 — Eli Kaiser-Hirsch scattered seven hits and allowed just one run to push Amherst into a winner-take all championship game. Hu hit an RBI double and singled. JB Mills scored on an error after a walk. Katz drove in Hu in the sixth.

Amherst 6, Frontier 3 — JB Mills hit an RBI double, while Eli Slovin had an RBI single. Toal doubled. Logan Dapprich had a sacrifice fly. Katz drove in a run.

Frontier’s Jake Labelle and Gabe Gochinski (two hits, RBI) singled in the fourth inning and both scored on an error.

The loss eliminated Froniter.

Northampton 7, Mohawk 2 — Patrick Serio went 4-for-4 with a double, and Northampton stayed alive in the double-elimination PVYBL Mickey mantle tournament Saturday. He scored two runs.

Orion McLain struck out five in a complete-game win.

Collin Ferrara doubled on a 3-for-4 day.

Wilson Heath was 2-fo-r3 with an RBI and two runs.

Owen Shelffo, McLain (hit) and Ben Fowler drove in runs

Jake Brittain, Jack Diggins and Jamie Berrios each singled and scored a run.

Amherst 4, Northampton 2 — Dappritch doubled and scored a run, and Amherst scored four runs in the third inning to knock Northampton out of the PVYBL Mickey Mantle tournament Saturday. He also pitched a complete game for the win.

Judah Katz had Amherst’s other hit. JB Mills, Hanscom and Tole scored runs, as Amherst took advantage of three Northampton errors.

Mike Baldwin struck out nine in the loss for Northampton and didn’t allow any earned runs.

Ben Fowler doubled twice.

Owen Shelffo hit an RBI double.

Jack Diggins and Wilson Heah (hit) scored runs.

Softball

Mid-Summer Storm — The 16U Valley Storm went 6-0 and won the weekend tournament in Greenfield.

Calista Lebron had five doubles and drove in four runs. Ally Markowski homered, hit three doubles and had four RBIs.

Kathryn Hioe doubled twice with four RBis.

Heather Carlin had three hits, including a homer, and three RBIs, while Charloette Doulette added three RBIs.

Mandy Fuller drove in a run on two hits. Gabby Palmisano drove in a run.
