It took the UMass women’s soccer team 39 minutes to score its first goal, but once it found the net, it didn’t stop and shellacked Chicago State, 8-0, in a nonconference match Friday at Rudd Field.

Junior Rebeca Frisk scored three times and sophomore Kelly Marra added a pair for the Minutewomen (4-2-0). Mia Carazza and Erin Doster each doled out two assists as well for UMass.

Field Hockey

UConn 8, UMass 3 — UConn scored 19 seconds into the game and the top-ranked team in the nation tallied seven times in the first half for the nonconference road win.

UConn (5-0) finished with a 22-5 advantage in shots on goal. Chloe Hillier scored twice and Gracie McTear added the other goal for the Minutewomen (2-3).

Men’s soccer

Boston University 3, UMass 2 — The Terriers stunned UMass with two goals in 34 seconds to propel itself to a nonconference win at home.

Matt McDonnell tied the game in the 84th minute with his second goal of the contest. Before UMass could catch its breath, Kari Petursson scored the winner with a 25-yard free kick.

Jack Fulton scored the only goal of the first half in the 41st minute to stake the Minutemen (2-2-1) to a lead. Brandon Merklin scored in the 63rd minute with an assist from Amherst native Davis Smith to reclaim the UMass lead after McDonnell’s first goal.

Women’s volleyball

Amherst College 3, Smith 0 — Sophomore Jamie Dailey smacked down 15 kills and scooped up 10 digs to lead Amherst College to a 25-4, 25-18, 25-19 victory in Northampton.

Junior Charlotte Duran passed out 31 assists for the Mammoths (1-0) and junior Candace Chung recorded a team-best 17 digs.

Sophomore Caleigh Johnson had eight kills to lead Smith (0-4), which also made 19 errors in the loss.
