HADLEY – Hadley Police are warning about a scam letter that informs recipients that they have won more than a half million dollars, and then requests thousands of dollars in order to claim it.

The letter posted to the department’s Facebook page purports to be from Union Disbursement Inc., and says that it is a final notice.

The letter claims that the recipient has won $550,000 in an Aug. 16 Sweepstakes and Lottery Draw, but that the prize also comes with $7,800 in fees. It also asserts that any money claimed later than Sept. 24 will be returned to the jackpot, and that the recipient should call their claims agent.  A name and number for the agent is then provided.

In its post, the Hadley Police Department says the letter is a confirmed scam and was sent to an area resident.

“Any unsolicited calls, mailing, or email’s stating that there are contest winnings should be suspect by any recipient,” writes the department in their post.
