HATFIELD — The Easthampton girls soccer team beat Smith Academy, 6-0, Monday.

Senior Jaquy Perez took a pass from Kasi Marowitz and fired a shot into the back of the net to open the scoring for the Eagles.

Marowitz had two assists and two goals for the Eagles. Frances Powers had two goals. Olivia Downer had one goal. Bella Scalabrini, Rosie Pagnoni, Emily Landry and Eden Burke all had one assist.

Easthampton goalie Abby Coleman made three saves, while Smith Academy goalie Meghan Bell made six.

“I thought we did a great job winning battles in the middle of the field,” Easthampton coach Brian Miller said.

Easthampton (4-3) controlled the ball for most of the game, but the Falcons played better in the second half.

Trailing 2-0 at halftime, the Falcons had their best scoring chances in the second half. The Falcons (3-4) had an attack going downfield that resulted in a shot that hit the side of the net. They later had a free kick from a handball, but the shot soared over the net.

“The whole theme of the halftime talk was to start to move more as a unit, and we could not let Easthampton sit back and then take it to us,” Smith Academy coach Matt Brown said. “I thought we did OK for a while, but I think their passing took us over at the end.”

After a bit of a slow start to the second half, Easthampton picked it up and added four goals to pull away.

“I think that games like this are good because they can bring the team together,” Brown said. “It’s good to lose sometimes because it’ll make us stronger in the end.”
