NORTHAMPTON — Pleasant Street, along with a number of other streets downtown, will have repaving work done this week.
“This is part of our 2018 pavement program,” said Northampton Mayor David Narkewicz.
Paving contractor Warner Brothers LLC began two days of milling on Pleasant Street between Main Street and Hockanum Road on Monday. The company will also be milling Cooke Avenue between Bridge Road and Hatfield Street as well as North King Street between Coles Meadow Road and Laurel Park. There will be no parking on these streets from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Pleasant Street will be repaved later in the month.
Narkewicz said the paving is being accomplished through a combination of city funds and Chapter 90 funds provided by the state. He also said that the paving is part of the Capital Improvement Program approved earlier this year as part of fiscal 2019.
Narkewicz noted the improvements done to Pleasant Street last year, including the addition of speed bumps and new sidewalks. However, a final finished coat of pavement was not able to be put on the street by the end of last year.
The mayor said the cost of the repaving on Pleasant Street, and intersecting Hampton Avenue, Wright Avenue and Fulton Avenue is $1.1 million. He said that all of the city’s paving projects will be completed by the end of October.
