BELCHERTOWN — Two people were killed in a single-vehicle accident Monday, the Northwestern district attorney’s office reported.
The driver and passenger were the only people in the car when the crash occurred Monday morning, authorities said. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the passenger’s death was announced later in the day.
The district attorney’s office said the victims’ names would not be released until Tuesday.
Just after 12:30 p.m., Belchertown Police posted a traffic advisory on their Facebook page stating that State Street from Turkey Hill Road to the entrance of Chestnut Hill School would be closed to traffic for an indefinite time due to a motor-vehicle crash.
Police later reported that the street was reopened at 2:45.
Belchertown Police, the Massachusetts State Police Unit of the Northwestern District attorney’s office and MSP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS) are currently investigating the cause of the crash.
