A state trooper and a motorist were injured Friday afternoon following a high-speed car chase through Erving, Orange and ending in New Salem on Fay Road, according to police scanner reports. No one would confirm who was injured or how.
The person driving the car being pursued by police was apprehended just before 2 p.m. According to reports, the driver led police from Route 2 east near Erving to Route 122 south through Orange to Route 202 south to New Salem.
It was also reported on the scanner that the suspect had allegedly hijacked a car in Vermont.
Police converged at the scene and called for two ambulances from the Orange Fire Department, but minutes later two LifeFlight helicopters were also summoned.
The injured trooper was en route to Athol Hospital by ambulance, where personnel readied the helicopter pad, according to scanner reports. The trooper was transferred to the LifeFlight and flown to the UMass Medical Center in Worcester.
According to those scanner reports, a second landing zone had been set up by the Orange Fire Department in a large field on the corner of Fay Road and Route 202, just north of Route 122. The helicopter landed just before 2 p.m. in that area. The suspect was placed under arrest and loaded for transport to UMass.
