The Amherst College football team started with a safety and held Wesleyan’s offense to negative rushing yards, as the Mammoths won 33-3 on Saturday in Middletown, Connecticut.

Biafra Okoronkwo ran for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Ollie Eberth threw for 203 yards and a score and ran for another 59 yards. James O’Reagan caught seven passes for 134 yards and a touchdown.

The Mammoths (6-0, 6-0 NESCAC) tallied six sacks. Nate Tyrell grabbed an interception.

Ice hockey

Ohio State 3, UMass 1 — Mitchell Chaffee put the Minutemen up 1-0 six minutes into Saturday’s game, but the Buckeyes scored three times in a row to split their two-game series.

Cale Makar and Bobby Trivigno assisted Chaffee. Filip Lindberg made 36 saves for UMass (3-1).

Field Hockey

Amherst College 3, Wesleyan 0 — Beth Williamson, Franny Daniels and Megan Shea scored in a road win Saturday.

Laura Schwartzman assisted Williamson’s goal for the Mammoths (10-4, 5-4 NESCAC). Katie Savage made four saves, and Emilie Flamme added two.

Mount Holyoke 4, Smith 1 — Margaret Robb had two goals in the Lyons’ home win Saturday.

Mirie Golding-Powers and Colby Newsham also scored for Mount Holyoke. Kylie Brooks and Northampton’s Abby Baldwin added assists. Morgan Turner made seven saves for the Lyons (9-7, 4-3 NEWMAC).

Alex Larosse scored Smith’s goal from Sammie Pavlov. Channy Cornell stopped one shot for the Pioneers (9-7, 4-3).

Women’s soccer

Wesleyan 3, Amherst College 2 — Rubii Tamen had two goals in a road loss Saturday.

Natalie Landau assisted her first goal, which tied the game in the 18th minute. Antonia Tammaro made four saves for the Mammoths (11-2-1, 6-2-1 NESCAC).

Wheaton 3, Mount Holyoke 1 — Belchertown’s Lauryn Parent had an assist in Wheaton’s road win.

Cora Melcher scored Mount Holyoke’s goal assisted by Hannah Finn-Erb. Amanda Manaster made six saves for Mount Holyoke (3-10-2, 1-7 NEWMAC).

UMass 2, Dayton 0 — Rebeca Frisk had a goal and an assist in a road win Sunday.

Erin Doster scored UMass’ other goal, and Jenny Hipp assisted Frisk. Peyton Ryan made three saves to keep a clean sheet for the Minutewomen (11-5-1, 6-3-1 A-10).

Women’s volleyball

Brandeis 3, Smith 0; Plymouth State 3, Smith 2 — Amy Hagen tallied 28 kills in two Saturday losses for the Pioneers (3-20). Iris Afantchao added 10 blocks, while Kimani Freeman passed 49 assists. Jody Huang made 31 digs.

Amherst College 3, WPI 0; Amherst College 3, Bridgewater State 0 — Cameron Hendricks had 13 kills, while Hayes Honea and Skyleur Savage each made 11 digs in a sweep of WPI on Saturday. Charlotte Duran had 38 assists.

Against Bridgewater later that day, Emily Kolsky powered 15 kills while Adelaide Shunk added 23 assists. Savage picked up another 11 digs.

Women’s swimming & diving

UMass 194, Vermont 106 — Ansley Baker won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.9 seconds and the 100 free in 51.83 on Saturday.

Rowing

Head of the Charles — UMass’ Championship Fours boat placed 17th, while the Minutewomen’s Championship Eights was 26th.
