HATFIELD — A single-family home at 1 King St. and a vacant 2.45-acre lot on Main Street, both taken by the town for non-payment of taxes, are being auctioned next week.
Sullivan & Sullivan Auctioneers LLC of Sandwich will be handling the tax possession public auction Oct. 30 at noon at Hatfield Town Hall, 59 Main St.
Betty Quinn, operations manager for Sullivan & Sullivan, said that Hatfield town counsel went through Land Court to set the stage for the auction.
“This is a common way for a town that wants to get them back on the tax rolls,” Quinn said.
The 1 King St. site, which is less than an acre, features a 1,344-square-foot, three-bedroom, one-bathroom ranch-style home with a two-car garage. Assessed at $229,800, it was previously owned by Susan and Lisa Skarzynski.
The Main Street land is immediately north of an existing home at 176 Main St. and is assessed at $133,100. That property was also owned by Susan and Lisa Skarzynski.
Hatfield treasurer and collector Sharon Strzegowski said the town is eager to hold the auction and get the properties back into private hands as a way “to improve the neighborhoods by converting vacant properties to active properties.”
The auction requires a $5,000 deposit by bank check and a 7 percent buyer’s premium, with the balance due within 30 days.
