NORTHAMPTON — A malfunctioning boiler in a multi-unit apartment complex on the corner of Dewey Court and South Street prompted a response from the city fire department.
Around 12:30 p.m. Monday dozens of firefighters could be seen walking in and out of 3 Dewey Court, and a half-dozen fire trucks and ambulances idled on the street. Tenants waited outside.
Northampton Fire Department’s Deputy Chief William Millin said the response was prompted by reports of smoke filling the basement. He said it was caused by an overheated boiler. No one was hurt, and firefighters left the scene about 30 minutes later.
