SOUTH HADLEY — The South Hadley girls soccer team dominated Mount Greylock in the Western Massachusetts Division 3 Tournament quarterfinals, advancing with a 7-0 victory Monday.
The top-seeded and defending champion Tigers (20-0-0) will play No. 4 Monument Mountain (14-4-1), in the semifinals, Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Chicopee Comp.
South Hadley opened the scoring with a goal in the fourth minute from Teagan Gawron.
The goal came on a Madelyn Doolitte corner kick that soared through the box without being touched. Gawron met the ball at the far end of the box, settled it and put it in the net to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
The Tigers kept the pressure on Mount Greylock and barely allowed the ball in their defensive zone.
“We wanted to be very offensive today and put a ton of pressure on them,” South Hadley coach Rich Marjanski said.
South Hadley was led by Lindsey Marjanski, who had two goals and one assist, Gawron with two goals, and Doolittle with one goal and two assists.
“The girls talked about goals in the beginning of the season,” Rich Marjanski said. “Obviously our goal wasn’t to go undefeated, but they’re reaching their goals. These guys are stepping up every single game, they really want people to know this is a special team.”
One goal the Tigers set for themselves, according to Rich Marjanski, was to allow less than 15 goals this season and so far, the Tigers have only allowed seven.
Rich Marjanski said South Hadley was going to stay the course for the semifinals.
“I’ve seen both of them play and we’re not going to change a thing,” Rich Marjanski said of Southwick and Monument prior to knowing the winner. “We’re very offensive, and we’re going to bring the offense to them and hopefully kids finish and put the ball in the back of the net.”
The Tigers did not play Monument Mountain during the regular season.
“These girls have played together,” Rich Marjanski said. “They felt winning Western Mass already, but they want to get that feeling back.”
