I was a Northampton city councilor when the Gazette’s editorial board slammed the City Council for not ratifying an arbitration decision that was favorable to a city union.
I have read numerous editorials throughout the years in which the Gazette promulgated its support for unions and working people. It’s now time for the Gazette to take this great opportunity to go beyond all of its progressive lip service and walk the walk. It’s time for the Gazette to enthusiastically endorse the unionization efforts of its own workers.
Anything short of that would be outstanding hypocrisy, and it would prove all the previous pro-union talk to be empty sanctimony.
