High school basketball: Northampton boys connect on nine 3s in win at Easthampton

Dillon Diemand made four of Northampton’s nine 3-pointers, finishing with 14 points as the Blue Devils boys basketball team beat Easthampton 67-52 on the road Friday.

Jaeden Johndrow led Northampton (1-2) with 20 points. Mike McCarthy added 15. Freshman Jacob Cancel hit two 3s and scored eight points, while Jake Brittain and Antoine Watts also connected from beyond the arc.

Jack Bacis led Easthampton (1-1) with 16 points. Drew Caires scored 14, and Ronan Mottor had nine.

Smith Vocational 49, Gateway 36 — Jayvon Cordova splashed three 3s and scored 11 points, as the Vikings prevailed in the consolation game of the Falcons Holiday Classic. Elpedia Adorno also added 11 for the Vikings (1-2, 1-0 Tri-County South), and Connor Brainerd scored seven.

Evan Cortis poured in a game-high 18 points for Gateway (0-3, 0-1). Dylan Lafreniere chipped in eight points.

Southwick 58, Smith Academy 57 (OT) — Jack Zigmont scored 35 points, but the Falcons couldn’t overcome a poor shooting night and lost in the Falcons Holiday Classic championship.

Smith Academy (2-2) shot 29.2 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from 3-point range.

Carter Woodward hit five 3s and scored 19 points.

Brett Gratz added nine rebounds and four assists. Max Bartlett grabbed 10 rebounds.

Granby 91, Pathfinder 31 — The Rams rained 15 3-pointers and had four double-digit scorers. Nate Breault scored 16, Kyle Murdock added 13, Connor Gaughan chipped in 17 and Mike White had 10.

Steven Torres Jr. had eight for Granby (3-0).

Mahar 49, Hampshire Regional 36 — The Raiders struggled to score, harmed by 26 turnovers. Justin Forest led Hampshire (0-3) with 11 points. Nick Pellegrini scored nine, and Dominick Lewinski added eight.

Girls basketball

Hopkins Academy 42, Amherst Regional 39 — Samantha Jenks scored 13 points, as the Golden Hawks bested a Division 2 opponent at home. She added five assists.

The Hurricanes (0-2) had the ball with 1.7 seconds left and a chance to tie but didn’t get the shot off.

Allison Kowal-Safron scored 10 points for Hopkins (3-1), while Thea Hanscom added four points and 10 rebounds. AJ Mitchell had eight points despite battling foul trouble.

Delaney MacPhetres led Amherst with 20 points. Madison Layer had eight, and Erin Klaes scored six.

Wahconah 48, Granby 19 — Nora Young scored 14 points, as the Rams (0-1) opened the season with a road loss.

Franklin Tech 40, Easthampton 30 — Val Murphy had 12 points, but the Eagles (0-2) fell on the road. Emma Downer added eight points, and Sofie Massa scored seven.
