HS basketball: Hampshire girls fight off foul trouble to beat Chicopee

Foul trouble allowed Chicopee to close the gap, but the Hampshire Regional girls basketball team maintained its lead en route to a 63-54 win in Westhampton on Thursday.

The Raiders led 16-8 after the first quarter and 30-20 at halftime. Chicopee closed with 45-40 entering the fourth.

Maddie Pond finished with 25 points and 12 steals, while Maggie Rubeck added 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Kyleen Labrecque chipped in with eight points for Hampshire (3-0).

Boys basketball

Chicopee 78, Amherst 33 — Steven Steele had 13 points but the Hurricanes (0-2) fell on the road.

Palmer 44, Hopkins Academy 41 — The Golden Hawks’ fourth-quarter rally fell just short on the road. Hopkins outscored the Panthers 20-3 in the fourth quarter, nearly erasing a 20-point deficit.

Andrew Ciaglo bombed six 3-pointers and finished with 22 points for the Golden Hawks (1-2). Caleb Graves added seven points, and Erik Berg scored five.

Mount Greylock 57, South Hadley 45 — Hunter Carey led the Tigers with 18 points in a home loss. Austin Robinette added seven, and Kyle Johnson scored six for South Hadley (0-5).
