Jill McGrath went 5 of 6 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter and Amanda Mieczkowski hit two 3-pointers as the Northampton girls basketball team held off Chicopee, 52-44, at home Tuesday.

Mieczkowski finished with 17 points, while McGrath added 15 points on 11 of 14 shooting from the line. The Blue Devils (3-0) were 21-for-30 from the line.

Belchertown 50, Sabis 36 โ€” Elise Pikul scores 15 points and added nine steals in a road win.

The Orioles clamped down on Sabis center Alicia Mitchall, who was averaging 16 points per game. Belchertown switched its defense to front her in the post and have a defender between her and the basket. After she put up six points in the first quarter, the Orioles post players, Sonya Dugger, Meredith Medina and Madeline Duffy held her scoreless in the second half.

Jenna Birks canned four 3s for Belchertown (2-1) and scored 14 points.

Hopkins Academy 49, Gateway Regional 20 โ€” Samantha Jenks had 22 points and three 3-pointers, while Allison Kowal-Safron and Gabby Palmisano each had six as the Golden Hawks (4-1) rolled in Huntington.

Peyton Bucko had seven points and Angela Wright six for the Gators (1-1).

Amherst Regional 65, Ludlow 27 โ€” Erin Klaes knocked down four first-quarter 3-pointers as the Hurricanes jumped out to a 25-6 lead at the first break.

Klaes finished with six 3s and a season-high 27 points. Madison Layer had 16 rebounds to go with her seven points. Delaney MacPhetres chipped in with 12 points.

McCann Tech 39, Smith Academy 35 โ€” Emma Kelly had 13 points and 14 rebounds, but the Falcons (2-2) fell on the road.

Victoria Smiarowski added 15 rebounds. Karlie Guimond hit two 3s and scored 10.

Pope Francis 49, Easthampton 39 โ€” Val Murphy had 15 points, 13 rebounds and nine blocked shots, while Emma Downer added 14 points and Sophia Massa 10 points and seven rebounds for the visiting Eagles (0-3).

Abbey Coleman had six assists in defeat.

Frontier Regional 44, Mahar 40 โ€” Amelia Sobieski scored 14 points, pulled down 13 rebounds and contributed seven blocks for the Red Hawks (1-1). Marie Diemand finished with 12 points, Olivia Deane had 10, and Charlotte Doulette added six points and 10 boards.

Monson 54, Hampshire Regional 34 โ€” Maggie Rubeck scored eight points, as the Raiders (2-1) lost on the road in a matchup of defending Western Massachusetts champions. Hampshire won the Division 3 title last year, while the Mustangs captured Division 4. Both lost in their respective state finals.

Lila Labrie and Maddie Pond scored seven points each for Hampshire.

Boys basketball

Smith Vocational 61, Duggan Academy 55 โ€” The Vikings (2-2) led 30-10 at halftime, then held off the visitors in the fourth quarter en route to the win in Northampton.

Tyler Top had 11 points, while Andrew Pierce and Elpidio Adorno each had 10. Jayvon Cordova (nine points) and Jaxon Venne each hit a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter to key Smith Voke.
