GREENFIELD — Alondra E. Gil, 23, the last person still wanted on charges related to the March 10 killing of Daniel Cruz, was arrested Tuesday morning in Springfield.
Gil, of Northampton, was arrested by the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, West Team, the Springfield Police Department, and the Western Massachusetts Gang Task Force, on a pair of warrants issued by Hampshire Superior Court in connection with the alleged concealment of the killing of Cruz, 44, of Northampton.
Gil was arraigned Tuesday afternoon before Judge John Agostini in Franklin Superior Court, where her warrants were recalled. Although Gil’s trial is set to take place in Hampshire Superior Court, she was arraigned in the Greenfield court due to Judge Richard Carey’s absence from Hampshire Superior Court because of health issues.
Bail was set for Gil at $40,000 cash or $400,000 surety on the charges of accessory after the fact to murder, burning personal property, withholding evidence from criminal proceedings, two counts of conspiracy, and improper disposition of a human body.
A not guilty plea was entered on her behalf on these charges.
Gil was released in May on $3,500 bail on a perjury charge related to the Cruz case. On Tuesday, bail was raised to $10,000 cash or $100,000 personal surety on that charge. Gil failed to appear in Hampshire Superior Court for a Dec. 10 pre-trial hearing on the perjury charge.
Bail on both matters was set without prejudice.
Gil is being represented by attorney Rachel Weber, who was appointed by the court. Gil’s next court appearance will be a status update on Jan. 7 at 11 a.m. in Hampshire Superior Court.
Judge Carey’s health also caused the arraignments of Pedro J. Soto-Rodriguez, 21, of Northampton, and Joshua T. Ealy, 20, of Northampton, on charges related to Cruz’s death, to be postponed. Soto-Rodriguez is now set to be arraigned on Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. while Ealy is set to be arraigned on Jan. 4 at 2 p.m., both in Hampshire Superior Court. Ealy will be arraigned on a perjury charge related to the case, while Soto-Rodriguez’s charges include accessory to murder after the fact.
Prosecutors say that on March 10, Soto-Rodriguez and Cruz got into an altercation at the Meadowbrook Apartments in Northampton. They allege that Nerkin Omar Morales, 22 of Northampton, then intervened in the argument with a firearm, shooting Cruz three times and killing him.
Prosecutors allege that Soto-Rodriguez and Morales then enlisted a group of other people to help cover up the crime, and that later that evening Cruz’s body was moved to a field in Hatfield and lit on fire.
Morales has been indicted and arraigned on charges that include first-degree murder. Soto-Rodriguez, Gil and four others were indicted in November on charges that include accessory to murder after the fact.
The other person who was wanted and at-large in connection with the case, Chelsea T. Rodriguez, 23, of Northampton, was arrested on Dec. 6 in DeLand Florida. She is currently awaiting extradition back to Massachusetts to stand trial on charges that include accessory to murder after the fact.
