NORTHAMPTON — “Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than one inch” probably wasn’t quite what Bing Crosby was dreaming about. But this forecast predicts Hampshire County will have a white Christmas.

That’s according to the National Weather Service, which is forecasting that snow was likely on both Sunday and Monday. Most of the region is expected to get less than one inch through Christmas morning, though at higher elevations there might be more.

There may only be a bit of snow, but the National Weather Service’s Boston office is warning drivers that “just” a dusting of snow can be more dangerous than 10 inches of snow.

A Sunday tweet from the National Weather Service reads: “10 inches traffic slows, minor accumulation not so much. There may also be icy roads and parking lots.”

Monday is expected to be cloudy, but the sun will be out again on Christmas Day, when temperatures are likely to reach a high of 35 degrees.
