HATFIELD — An active police search was underway Monday following a bank robbery in Hatfield, according to State Police.

Police did not specify which bank was robbed, but People’s United Bank on West Street was closed Monday because of an emergency, according to a sign on its door, and a Hatfield police cruiser was present outside the building.

State troopers and canines were dispatched in search of a suspect, said State Police Lt. Tom Ryan.

State and local police were stationed along Route 5 near the Delaney House in Holyoke for several hours on Monday. State Police did not provide further details. Representatives from People’s United Bank could not immediately be reached for comment.
