Thank you, Gazette, for bringing to light the absurdity of our City Council during the debate to accept an ammunition donation from Walmart. I am not a gun supporter, nor am I a Walmart supporter, but the arguments, the lengthy discussions and gutless referral to committee is asinine and displays how this current City Council is out of touch and living in a social bubble.
Walmart has excess inventory due to no longer stocking guns. The police can easily use the appropriate ammunition for training to improve their proficiency (good), and the ammo that cannot be used will be appropriately controlled (good). If Walmart is taking a tax break, contact Congressman McGovern, as this is a federal issue!
Lastly, if the city does not accept this gift, Walmart will just transfer this inventory to another store, and the ammunition will then be sold to the public. What part of this debate is not understandable by our council? The City Council has more important decisions to debate to enable Northampton to remain a viable and sustainable community! It’s enough it drive this liberal to become a conservative!
