I’m writing in support of the Northampton Police Department, and in agreement with Michael Pill’s opinion column, “Keeping the streets safe for all us liberals.” As a lifelong liberal and feminist, I am horrified by the knee-jerk anti-police reaction to the Walmart ammunition donation offer, and to other recent incidents (cameras, the trip to Israel). Let’s try to keep a little perspective, people! We expect our police officers to be there when we need them. It is a big problem for all of us when our police chief feels the need to call out anti-police rhetoric. We need to listen to her, and try to say YES instead of an automatic NO.
