Delaney MacPhetres put up 23 points and 13 rebounds, as the Amherst Regional girls basketball team won its Central League opener, 57-36, over Sabis at home Monday.
It was the freshman’s third 20-point game of the season.
“She’s playing with a lot of poise for a freshman,” Amherst coach Dustin James said.
Erin Klaes made two 3-pointers and scored 15 points. Maouri Yath added nine points.
Amherst (3-5, 1-0 Central) led 50-19 after three quarters.
Northampton 75, Holyoke 38 — The Purple Knights hit five of their seven 3-pointers in the third quarter, but the Blue Devils shut them down in the fourth, outscoring Holyoke 20-3 to put them away.
Amanda Mieczkowski finished with 19 points, while Riley Allen had a career-high 13 points. Emily Sledzieski and Jill McGrath had nine points apiece for the Blue Devils (8-1, 1-0 Valley League).
Hopkins Academy 62, Easthampton 31 — Samantha Jenks (five rebounds, five assists) finished with a game-high 19 points, while AJ Mitchell (14) and Allison Kowal-Safron (11) also hit for double figures as the Golden Hawks (7-4) rolled on the road. Mitchell added 15 rebounds.
Val Murphy had 13 points and Emma Downer had 10 for the Eagles (2-7).
McCann Tech 52, Frontier 46 — Amelia Sobieski and Marie Diemand each finished with 13 points, while Ariana Walker added nine for the visiting Red Hawks (4-4).
Hampshire Regional 51, Palmer 37 — Maddie Pond made three 3s and scored 23 points in a road win.
Lila Labrie added 15 for the Raiders (6-3), who led 13-4 after the first quarter.
Maggie Rubeck, fresh off her career high, had eight points.
Smith Vocational 53, Gateway Regional 33 — Tyler Top had 19 points on five 3-pointers as the Vikings (4-4, 2-0 Tri-County South) stayed undefeated in league play with the win in Huntington.
Colin Earle and Carlos Rivera had 10 points apiece in the win.
Evan Cortis led the Gators (0-10, 0-4) with 19 points and 21 rebounds. Joel Sakaske added 10 points.
Frontier Regional 72, Mohawk 26 — The Red Hawks (8-1, 4-0 Hampshire North) led 25-4 after the first quarter and never looked back en route to the rout in South Deerfield.
Carsten Carey had 20 points, while Peter Carey had seven points and seven assists. Owen Morse added 11 points.
Palmer 52, Hampshire Regional 47 — The Raiders (2-8, 1-3 Bi-County East) were within two late but lost possession on a turnover. They were forced to foul down the stretch and the Panthers made their free throws for the win.
Colin Boyle had a career-high 15 points, while Dominik Lewinski added nine.
Palmer used its size and physicality to outrebound Hampshire 37-24.
Mahar 67, Belchertown 55 — The Orioles (2-8, 0-4 Hampshire South) outscored the Senators (7-3, 3-2) 17-9 in the third quarter to take a 44-42 lead in the final frame, but they couldn’t hold on at home.
Nathan Wright had 17 points and Corey Lanoue added 16 for Belchertown.
Pioneer Regional 66, Hopkins Academy 45 — The Panthers (9-1, 5-0 Hampshire South) outscored the Golden Hawks (4-6, 1-3) 20-5 to take a 50-25 lead into the fourth quarter.
Andrew Ciaglo had 15 points, while Caleb Graves added seven in defeat.
Smith Academy 54, Greenfield 49 — The Falcons held a 40-39 lead entering the fourth quarter and held on for the road win.
Brett Gratz finished with 18 points, Jack Zigmont had 17 points and Carter Woodward added 15 for the Falcons (4-6, 2-2 Hampshire North).
