Strong field performances helped the South Hadley girls indoor track and field team to two wins during the early session of the fifth PVIAC meet of the season, Friday at Smith College.
The Tigers beat Athol, 77-17, and Southwick, 60-31. Lindsay Marjanski cleared 5 feet, 6 inches to win the high jump. Savannah Sudyka threw the shot put 33-2 for first place.
South Hadleyโs 4×800-meter relay bested the field at 10 minutes, 36.42 seconds.
Amherst Regional lost to Chicopee Comp, 62-32, Longmeadow, 69-25, and Minnechaug, 55-39. Amherstโs Isabela Shepard won the 600 in 1:46.25. Julia Hopley was first in the 1,000 (3:25.62).
On the boys side, South Hadleyโs Jonas Clarke finished first in the 55 in 6.63. Bradyn Cote won the mile (4:57.53) for the Tigers, who beat Athol, 55-38, and Southwick, 69-18.
Amherst lost to Comp, 60-31, Longmeadow, 70-24, and Minnechaug, 45-44. Junior Pontes da veiga of Amherst placed first in the 300 (37.4) and finished just behind Clarke in the 55 (6.7).
In the late session, the Northampton girls beat Putnam, 81-13. The 4×200 relay was first in 1:52.14. India Smith-Grant threw the shot 30-0 for first.
Hampshire Regional beat Baystate Academy, 72-16, but lost, 58-36, to Pope Francis. Hannah Labrie took second in the 55 hurdles (9.45), while Hannah Wodecki was second in the shot put (29-10).
The Northampton boys beat Putnam, 75-18. Simon Laclair took first in the 600 (1:27.76) for Hamp.
The Blue Devils also were victorious in the 4×200 (1:34.33) and 4×800 (8:20.16).
Hampshireโs Jacob Labrie placed third in the 55 hurdles (9.24) and the Raiders 4×800 finished third (9:01.11). Hampshire beat Baystate Academy, 72-16, but lost 58-36 against Pope Francis.
