Jill McGrath scored a career-high 19 points as the Northampton girls basketball team won, 55-24, at Amherst Regional to qualify for the postseason Wednesday.
The Blue Devils played their fifth consecutive game on the road and went 4-1 in that stretch.
Amanda Mieczkowski hit three 3-pointers and scored 13 points but focused her energy on defending Amherst guard Erin Klaes, who had six points.
Riley Allen scored eight points, while Emily Sledzieski added seven for Northampton (10-2).
Delaney MacPhetres scored six points for Amherst (4-7), while Mayouri Yath had five.
Wednesdayโs win was Northamptonโs second in two days, and the Blue Devils close out the week with a home game against Pittsfield at 7 p.m. Friday.
Easthampton 70, Granby 57 โ Ronan Mottor scored 22 points, including a game-high three 3-pointers, to give the Eagles (9-3) the edge over the Rams (7-5). Drew Caires added 10 points for the Eagles.
Granby was led by Ryan Gaughan with 21 points and Nate Breault with 16 points.
Belchertown 70, Greenfield 62 โ Corey Lanoue caught fire after the first quarter and finished with a career-high 36 points in the victory at home.
Following a two-point first frame, Lanoue hit two 3-pointers and entered halftime with 15 points. The senior added nine points in the third and 12 in the fourth on two more 3s.
James Lawless and Jordan Lanoue each had six points for the Orioles (4-9).
Hopkins Academy 70, Mohawk 41 โ Andrew Ciaglo led the Golden Hawksโ 3-point barrage, hitting six of Hopkinsโ 12 triples and scoring 26 points.
Caleb Graves added 14 and made two 3s. Ryan Antes scored 12. Nate Waldon had 10 points and hit two 3s for the Golden Hawks (7-6).
Frontier Regional 70, Turners Falls 51 โ Carsten Carey led a balanced effort with 19 points and 11 rebounds, as the Red Hawks won their 10th in a row.
Owen Morse hit three 2s and scored 16, while Peter Carey had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Alex Sharp added eight points and eight assists.
Frontier (11-1) trailed 17-8 after a quarter but shared the ball much better over the remaining three to outscore Turners 62-34.
Ware 80, South Hadley 52 โ Hunter Carey scored 19 points and made two 3s. Liam Dawson added 10 points, while Hunter Borowski hit two 3s and had six points for the Tigers.
Mahar 64, Smith Academy 54 โ The Senators (9-4) pulled away in the third quarter after the game was knotted up at the half. Mahar used a 23-8 third to take a 15-point lead.
The Falcons hung around on the strength of their 3-point shooting. Jack Zigmont (two 3s) finished with 22 points and Brett Gratz (three 3s) added 13 points.
Carter Woodward and Colin Ferrara each had nine points on three 3s for Smith.
Central 62, Northampton 57 โ The Blue Devils missed two 3-pointers that could have tied the game just before the buzzer. They led for a majority of the game and never allowed the Golden Eagles to pull away.
Anthony DeJesus hit four 3s and scored a career-high 25 points that also included nine made free throws.
โHe was awesome on both ends,โ Northampton coach Rey Harp said.
Dillon Diemand also hit four 3s and scored 12 points, while Michael McCarthy had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Northampton (6-6, 0-2 Valley).
Central chipped away at the lead from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.
โWeโre still trying to get to a point where we execute down the stretch the way champions do,โ Harp said.
Smith Vocational 64, St. Mary 42 โ The Vikings (6-4) made 12 3-pointers to sink the Saints. Jayvon Cordova (six assists) led the attack with all seven of his baskets coming from behind the arc for a career-high 21 points.
Andrew Pierce (15 rebounds) added a career-high 20 points for the Vikings.
Easthampton 5, Ludlow 1 โ Garren Fugiel scored three goals with one assist as the Eagles (8-5) skated away from the Lions at Lossone Rink.
Jake Batchelder and Ely Boyle each had one goal and one assists. Jake Delisle and Mike McColgan had one assist apiece.
Tyler Cortis made 17 saves in the win.
