Jack Zigmont had 26 points as the Smith Academy boys basketball team held off rival Hopkins Academy, 58-57, Friday in Hadley.

The Falcons led 30-24 at halftime and 45-40 after the third.

Brett Gratz finished 20 points on four 3-pointers for Smith Academy (5-8). Zigmont had three 3s.

Hopkins was led by Andrew Ciaglo with 16 points on five 3s. Caleb Graves added 13 points with a pair from deep for the Golden Hawks (6-7).

Belchertown 62, Athol 41 โ€” Corey Lanoue drained four 3-pointers and scored 23 points to pace the Orioles at home. Belchertown (5-9) had 10 different players record a point in the win.

Granby 54, Hampshire 45 โ€” Nate Breault finished with 20 points on four 3-pointers, while Kyle Murdock added 12 as the Rams (8-5) beat the Raiders (2-11) at home.

Sean Gaskins led Hampshire with 22 points on four 3s.

Frontier Regional 57, Pioneer Regional 50 โ€” Carson Carey scored 33 points and Owen Morse added 10 as the Red Hawks (12-1) won on the road.

Monson 60, Easthampton 44 โ€” Ronan Mottor scored a team-high 13 points while Drew Caires added 10 points for the Eagles (9-4), who missed out on a chance to qualify for the postseason.

Monson (10-4) clinched a postseason appearance.

Putnam 57, Amherst 29 โ€” Sam Leonard had seven points, but the Hurricanes (3-9) fell to the Beavers (11-2).

Pope Francis 58, Northampton 56 โ€” After falling behind early, the Blue Devils (6-7) stormed back to take a four-point lead with one minute to play before Gabriel James hit the game-winning 3-pointer.

Jaeden Johndrow was the leading scorer for Northampton with 22 points. Anthony Dejesus added 10 points.

Duggan 88, Smith Vocational 37 โ€” Andrew Piece scored 12 points and Carlos Rivera added 10 points but the Vikings (6-5) fell in Springfield.

Girls Basketball

Northampton 72, Pittsfield 59 โ€” The Blue Devils (11-2) picked up their defensive pressure in the second quarter, forcing several steals in their full-court press. The defensive focus gave them a 25-10 edge in the quarter.

Jill McGrath followed up her career-high 19 points on Wednesday night with a 20-point effort against the Generals.

Amanda Mieczkowski added 14 points and double-figures in assists while Sydney Lewandowski led the effort on the defensive end.
