The South Hadley girls and the Northampton boys indoor track teams have the same goal Friday — repeat as PVIAC champions.
The Blue Devils and Tigers will start their defense at 6 p.m. at Smith College.
Northampton only has three No. 1 seeds: Ethan Cooper (600 meters), defending champ Benjamin Gordon Sniffen (1,000) and the 4×400 relay.
But depth should boost the Blue Devils.
Eben Savenson (third seed) and Simon LaClair (fifth) join Cooper in the 600.
LaClair (third), Benjamin Howe (fifth) and Savenson (seventh) join Gordon Sniffen in the 1,000.
Tobias L’Esperance (third) and Tim Jacques (fifth) will compete in the 2-mile.
Hamp has five runners in the mile: LaClair (seventh), Howe (eighth), L’Esperance (ninth), Jacques (10th) and Matthew Callahan (13th).
Cole Lavalle is third in the 300 and sixth in the 55. Hamp will also field strong 4×200 (second) and 4×800 (third) relays.
Amherst Regional could make some noise.
Junior Pontes da veiga (second) and Benjamin Fang (seventh) will compete in the 55.
Aidan Shea is fourth in the 1,000, while Willem Goff is fifth in the mile.
Kai Bailin has the top time in the 300 with Isaiah Moyston fifth. Darius Robinson is sixth in the long jump.
The Hurricanes will also field a No. 1 4×200 relay, No. 2 4×400 and a No. 4 4×800 relay.
Jonas Clarke, of South Hadley, is first in the 55 dash.
The South Hadley girls team has a pair of top seeds in Savannah Sudyka (shot put) and Lindsay Marjanski (high jump). Both are defending champions.
Jocelyne Rondeau is the defending champ and No. 2 seed in the 1,000.
The Tigers field two athletes in the 55 hurdles: Emma Rahilly (fourth) and Maddie Doolittle (seventh).
Farrell Dawson is second in the 600, while the 4×400 is third and the 4×800 is fourth.
Northampton will take a shot at taking down South Hadley.
Emma Harder is second in the 300, and fourth in both the long jump and 55 dash.
Mary Yount is first in the 2-mile with Rosie Ingmann (sixth), Naomi Andrew (eighth) and Saraphina Forman (10th) behind her.
Yount (third) leads a contingent of Ingmann (sixth), Andrew (seventh), Peyton Pettiford-Rowan (eighth) and Adia Bennett (12th) in the mile. Yount is also third in the 1,000 with Ingmann (fourth) and Pettiford-Rowan (sixth) just behind.
Nava Chevan (third) and Maggie Reade (sixth) are in the 600, while Hamp will field three top-three relays: 4×800 (second), 4×400 (second) and 4×200 (third).
Amherst Regional has a shot at some titles.
Sophia Jacobs-Townsley is the defending champion in both the mile (seed) and 2-mile (third).
Isabela Shepard is the defending champ and top seed in the 600.
Danielle Beason is fourth in the 300 with Julia Hopley fifth in the 1,000.
Amherst has the top-seeded 4×800 relay and a 4×200 that is seeded fifth.
Hannah Labrie (fifth, 55 hurdles) is Hampshire Regional’s highest seed.
