After an upset win Wednesday over Frontier Regional, the Smith Academy boys basketball suffered a bit of letdown Friday night with a 53-35 loss to Greenfield in Hatfield.

“Some shots didn’t fall that we like,” Falcons coach Matt Zerneri said. “The defense gave us trouble. When they amped up the defense we didn’t do a good job of handling it like we normally do.”

After staying within striking distance at halftime the Falcons (6-11, 3-3 Hampshire North) suffered a scoring drought lasting 7 minutes, 42 seconds between the third and fourth quarters.

Jack Zigmont led the Falcons with 13 points while Brett Gratz added 12 in the loss.

Smith Academy has three games remaining and needs to win at Athol and in its season finale at home versus Mohawk to qualify for the tournament.
