Senior Kerry Fleming, of Northampton, won one event and swam a leg on a winning relay for Simmons at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Men’s and Women’s Championship, Friday at MIT.

Fleming anchored the winning 200-yard freestyle relay in 1 minute, 38.12 seconds. She won the 200 backstroke in 2:08.26.

Simmons is in second place (474.5 points) behind Roger Williams (507).

Softball

UMass 7, Belmont 0 — Madison Gimpl went 2-for-2 with four RBIs to power the Minutewomen past Belmont in the first game of the Georgia Classic. Gimpl smacked a two-run double to center field as part of a four-run second inning for the Minutewomen (2-5) and then stroked an RBI double in the seventh inning.

It was more than enough for reigning Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year Kiara Oliver, who struck out seven and scattered four hits over six innings to earn her first win of the season. Amy Smith also drove in two runs for UMass, putting the Minutewomen on the board with a single in the first inning and then drawing a bases-loaded walk in the second.

No. 8 Georgia 8, UMass 0 (5) — Savana Sikes hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to seal No. 8 Georgia’s walk-off win at the Georgia Classic.

The Bulldogs scored six runs on six hits in the first inning to break the game open, chasing freshman Kenadee Rausch from the circle after just four batters. Riley Gregoire provided most of the offense for the Minutewomen (2-6) with their only hit of the game and earned a walk in her other plate appearance.
