The Granby girls basketball team fell behind early and saw its season come an end with a 47-24 loss to Wahconah, Friday in the Western Massachusetts Division 3 Tournament quarterfinals.
The Rams trailed 17-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Warriors took advantage of the friendly Dalton rims and made three 3-pointers in the first quarter, and five by halftime.
Granby trailed 29-12 at the break after shooting 5-for-30 in the opening half.
โWe got a lot of good looks and we just missed,โ Granby coach Tom Burke said. โWe missed shots. Their defense is partially responsible for that.โ
Nora Young finished with 13 points for the sixth-seeded Rams (10-11). Kaeleigh Croteau added nine points and Paige Galusha two.
Wahconah finished with eight 3-pointers. Noelle Furlong had 16 points and four 3s. Maria Gamberoni and Morgan Marauszski each had 11 points for the third-seeded Warriors (19-2).
โThey shoot the ball well on their home court,โ Burke said. โAll credit to them. Theyโre good.โ
Wahconah will play No. 2 Hoosac (17-4) in the semifinals at UMassโ Curry Hicks Cage on Wednesday.
It was the final game for Granby senior Madison Sexton.
The Rams are looking forward to next season with six juniors set to return as seniors, including Young.
โVery optimistic going forward,โ Burke said.
