Four starters in double figures led the Amherst College men’s basketball team back to the Division III Sweet 16 for the first time since 2014.

Grant Robinson had 17 points and six rebounds, as the Mammoths beat Rochester 75-67 on the road Saturday.

Devonn Allen and Fru Che each scored 12 points, while Eric Sellew had 10 for the Mammoths (25-4).

Amherst will face Nichols (27-2) on March 8 in the Sweet 16 at home in LeFrak Gymnasium.

The Mammoths built a 38-30 halftime lead and maintained it in the second half. Rochester never led in the game.

“Both teams showed mental toughness,” Amherst coach Dave Hixon said in a release. “Every time they made it close, we were able to make the plays. They didn’t quite get over the hump.”

Duquesne 80, UMass 73 — Rashaan Holloway had 14 points and 13 rebounds in a road loss Saturday.

Jonathan Laurent also had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Carl Pierre led the Minutemen (10-19, 3-13 A-10) with 15 points and hit four 3s.

UMass led 34-32 at halftime, but the Dukes outscored them 48-39 in the second half.

UMass turned the ball over 19 times, which led to 27 Duquesne points.

Women’s basketball

Bowdoin 87, Smith 78 — Kennedy Guest-Pritchett had 26 points and eight rebounds, and Lauren Bondi scored 21, but the Pioneers lost in the Division III NCAA tournament second round.

Stephanie Foukaris had 13 points off the bench for Smith (22-7).

Hampshire Regional grad Katelyn Pickunka played four minutes, grabbed two rebounds and hit a free throw.

UMass 57, Rhode Island 53 — Vashnie Perry had 15 points, as the Minutewomen closed the regular season with a win Saturday.

Destiney Philoxy (three assists) added nine points, while Bre Hampton-Bey and Genesis Rivera each scored eight.

Hailey Leidel chipped in seven points and nine rebounds for UMass (15-15, 7-9 A-10).

Men’s hockey

Trinity 3, Amherst 2 — Taggart Corriveau scored an overtime winner for the Bantams with .01 seconds remaining in the extra period Sunday to win the NESCAC title.

The Mammoths (15-7-4) rallied with two goals in the third period to tie the game at 2.

Jack Fitzgerald scored first from Pieter von Steinberg 1:04 into the period, then Sean Wrenn knotted it at 2 from Max Roche and von Steinberg at 13:01.

Michael Cullen made 50 saves for Amherst.

The Mammoths beat Wesleyan 1-0 in double overtime in Saturday’s semifinal. Nick Bondra scored the winner for Amherst in the longest game in NESCAC playoff history.

Cullen stopped 39 shots for the shutout.

Women’s hockey

Williams 3, Amherst 1 — Angelina Wiater scored the Mammoths’ lone goal in the second period of Saturday’s NESCAC semifinal loss.

Jamie McNamara and Sarah Wagner had assists, while Caitlin Walker stopped 23 shots for Amherst (13-11-2).

Men’s lacrosse

Amherst 24, Colby 6 — Evan Wolf tallied nine points on two goals and seven assists in a season-opening road win Saturday.

Colin Minicus led the Mammoths (1-0, 1-0 NESCAC) with five goals, and Ethan Kazmierski, Jon Coffey (assist) and Carter Tate each scored three.

Jack Patton added a goal and three assists.

Chad Simon made eight saves, while Gib Versfeld stopped four.

Yale 12, UMass 11 (OT) — The Minutemen stayed with the No. 4 team in the country but fell on the road Saturday.

Jeff Trainor had three goals and an assist. Devin Spencer (assist), Ben Spencer and Billy Philpott all had two goals.

Sean Sconone made 14 saves for UMass (1-3).

Women’s lacrosse

UMass 19, UConn 13 — Kiley Anderson tallied nine goals and an assist in a home win.

Kaitlyn Cerasi added two goals and seven assists for the Minutewomen (2-2).

Stephanie Croke had two goals and two assists.

Gina Carroll made nine saves.

Colby 6, Amherst 5 — Rebecca Wistreich scored twice, while Claire Dunbar and Hannah Gustafson each had a goal and an assist in a season-opening loss Saturday.

Annie Cohen found the net, and Maia Noyes added an assist for the Mammoths (0-1, 0-1 NESCAC).

Talia Land made six saves.

Softball

UMass 2, Winthrop 1; UMass 5, East Carolina 0; UMass 10, Columbia 2 (5½ innings) — The Minutewomen went 3-0 over the weekend at East Carolina’s Purple and Gold Invitational.

Erin Stacevicz totaled five hits and two RBIs over the weekend.

Kaycee Carbone hit a three-run homer against East Carolina on Saturday.

Kiara Oliver picked up two wins in the circle and struck out 13.

Baseball

UMass 1, Central Connecticut 0 (11 innings); UMass 3, Navy 0; Navy 12, UMass 4 (5½ innings) — The Minutemen threw to shutouts on Saturday then lost big Sunday.

Colin Sharpiro scored the game-winning run against the Blue Devils on Saturday in the 11th when Logan Greene reached on an error.

The Minutemen scored all three runs in the eighth inning of Saturday’s win over Navy. Shapiro, Eddy Hart and Anthony Videtto drove them in. Justin Lasko threw a shutout with five hits and eight strikeouts.

Hart had two hits and an RBI in Sunday’s loss.

Women’s swimming

Pac-12 Championships — Northampton grad and Stanford junior Erin Voss placed fourth in the 200-yard backstroke Saturday in Federal Way, Washington.

She hit the wall in 1 minute, 51.43 seconds. Stanford swept the top four spots in the final. Ella Eastin won in 1:48.53.

The Cardinal won the team championship for the third year in a row.
