Amherst Regional senior Sophia Jacobs-Townsley set a school record Saturday, placing seventh in the invitational 3,200-meter run at the Arcadia Invitational on Saturday in Los Angeles.
She crossed the line in 10 minutes, 23.66 seconds.
Glenbard West’s Katelynne Hart (Illinois) took the title in 9:59.57.
Amherst 7, Northampton 6 — The Hurricanes scored six runs without a hit in the second inning Sunday and matched last year’s win total.
The Huricanes benefited from eight walks and a costly error during that frame.
Matt Essig hit a leadoff single in the first for Amherst (1-0) and scored on an RBI single by JB Mills.
Northampton (1-1) battled back. The Blue Devils added thre runs in the second and two in the fourth.
Jackson Heath, Dillon Diemand (two RBIs), Jake Brittain and Devontay Edmons (double, two RBIs) all had two hits.
Wilson Heath slapped his first varsity hit and drove in a run.
Northampton loaded the bases with one out in the seventh down two. Essig walked in a run, but then got a tough strikeout and a popout to end the game.
