The Hopkins Academy baseball team took jumped out to an early lead and beat rival Smith Academy, 8-4, Wednesday in Hadley.

Noah Scanlon-Dean struck out three, walked none and allowed eight hits over seven innings for the win.

A four-run first inning paved the way. Hopkins loaded the bases on two walks and hit batter in the first. Scanlon-Dean (two hits, run) helped himself with an RBI single. Kouji Ishida then added a two-run single.

Jack Feltovic was 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Hopkins (1-1).

Colin Ferrara was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and worked 5โ…” innings in relief for the Falcons (0-2). Sam Dadmun had a hit and two RBIs.

Granby 5, Palmer 0 โ€” Michael White struck out 12, walked none and limited the Panthers to one hit in the complete-game shutout for the Rams (1-1).

White allowed only an infield single deep in the hole between second and third in the second inning.

Good defense kept the shutout in the sixth. An error and groundout put a runner on third. Right-fielder Jon Couture caught a fly ball then fired home to catcher Josh White to hold the runner at third.

Carter Matthews was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Nolan Sullivan (run) had two hits, while Max King scored twice. Couture had a hit and scored a run.

Smith Vocational 21, Duggan 2 โ€” Tom Doyle had three hits and three RBIs, while Zach Hall had two hits, four RBIs and two runs scored as the Vikings ran away in Springfield.

John Zatowski (two hits) and Aidan Pike each had two RBIs and two runs.

Race Drobiak struck out 10, walked two and allowed three hits and one earned run over five innings for the win. Zatowski fanned five in two innings of relief.

Boys lacrosse

St. Maryโ€™s 7, Granby 5 โ€” Aaron Blanchard (assist) led the way for the Saints with three goals while Edward Towers (assist) had two goals.

Dakota Noel and Byron Dudas (one assist) also each scored once for the Saints (1-0). Connor Mott assisted on one goal.

Nate Drapeau and Mitch Lโ€™Abbee (one assist) put two goals apiece in net for the Rams (0-4). Tanner Imelio added a goal and Adam Flaherty contributed an assist to go along with Nate Loughmanโ€™s seven saves in the loss.

Girls lacrosse

Pittsfield 17, St. Maryโ€™s 5 โ€” Katarzyna Wisnauckas led the Saints with three goals with Skylar Duda and Samantha Moran each adding one goal.

Serena Griswold had five saves for the Saints (0-3) while playing the second half.
