Eighth grader Jocelyn Mettey threw a no-hitter in her varsity debut as the Hampshire Regional softball team opened the season with a 21-0, five-inning win over host Chicopee, Wednesday.
Mettey got plenty of support from the Red Raiders.
Bri Sulikowski (three runs, and five RBIs) was 4-for-4 for Hampshire, while Brooke Kavanaugh (two RBIs, run) and Hannah Marney (two RBIs, two runs) each tripled.
Belchertown 8, Palmer 4 — Allison Cote (three RBIs) and Gina Camerota (two RBIs) both went 2-for-3 also scoring three of the Orioles eight runs.
Joelle Ouimette struck out seven in seven innings for the Orioles (1-0).
Smith Vocational 17, Franklin Tech 5 (6) — Ashley Schabacker got the win for the Vikings (1-0) after settling in to strike out 15 in six innings.
Savannah Pierce went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and a double with Cassidy Colarusso adding four RBIs going 1-for-4 at the plate.
Northampton 11, East Longmeadow 5 — Jill McGrath went 3-for-5 and scored a team-high three runs for the Blue Devils (2-1).
Emilia Pelis scored two runs with three RBIs while Maya Williams (three hits), Madelyn Subocz (two hits), and Calista Lebron (one hit) all had two RBIs each.
