The Hopkins Academy softball team used a six-run third inning to break away from Gateway Regional and win 16-4 in six innings, Thursday in Hadley.

The Golden Hawks and Gators traded single runs after the first two innings, but Hopkins (1-0) took command with an 8-2 lead in the third.

Maegan Quinlan struck out six and walked one in the win. She also had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs.

Izzy Palmisano had three hits, while Olivia Brighenti (double, triple), Alli Markowski (double) and Sarah Beauchamp (hit) each had two RBIs. Gabby Dyjach had two hits.

Stephanie Paiva had two hits, while Kaitlyn Quinn, Ava Auclair, Grace Van Buren and Angela Wright had one hit apiece for Gateway (0-1).

Easthampton 10, Pioneer Regional 2 โ€” Abigail McClaflin (three runs), Lauren Morse (two runs) and Olivia Downer (two runs) each had three hits as the Eagles (3-0) rolled at home.

Morse homered and doubled. Downer had two triples.

Rachael Robinson struck out eight, walked two and allowed two hits in the win.

Central 12, Granby 11 โ€” The Rams had the tying run at third and the go-ahead run at second with one out in the seventh, but the host Golden Eagles (2-0) got a strikeout and groundout to end the threat.

Lindsey Wenzel was 4-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBIs for Granby (1-1). Belle Lanou added three hits, three RBIs and three runs, while Kelsey Myers (three runs) had a pair of hits and RBIs.

Mohawk 17, South Hadley 4 (6) โ€” The Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-2 lead, but the Warriors (2-0) tied it in the second and pulled away with five in the third for the road win.

Sarah Bisson and Maddie Fontaine each had three hits and scored for South Hadley (0-2). Caroline Matheson had two hits.

Greenfield 8, Belchertown 0 โ€” Samantha Mann had the lone hit as the Orioles fell on the road.
