I am writing to express my thanks and compliments to the Gazette for its front page April Fool’s Day spoof (“Language Guide Roils Campus”).
It is artfully written and provides some much-needed laughter about crippled communications in our politically fraught times. I do wish, however, that you had been a bit more even-handed in the material that you conjured up.
For example, you might have reported the emerging fact that the Amherst College Republican Club requires that its members support all Republicans in the U.S. Senate who hold the following truths to be self-evident: That “the invasion of the U.S. by hordes of Latino infants and their M-13 parents requires the declaration of a national emergency, the building of a great wall, and the closing of the southern border;” that “President Trump has been completely exonerated by the Mueller witch hunt of any Russia collusion or attempt to obstruct justice;” that “Obamacare is a complete disaster and should be repealed and replaced by something really great;” that “no one respects women more, or is less of a racist, than Donald Trump;” that “our dear leader knows more about military matters than all the generals and more about what’s really happening in the world than all the U.S. intelligence agencies combined;” and that “as Vladimir Putin said, ‘Donald Trump is brilliant’, and his grades — from kindergarten to high school and from SAT scores to college — are far higher than those of any Democrat who might run against him in 2020.”
