Back before Daylight Saving Time made its return, and the afternoon sun was still low and golden, I caught my shadow at the bus stop while waiting to greet my now not-so-wee bairn. I’ve since been gently alerted that my presence is no longer needed for this. It’s a once-a-week ritual that I’ve enjoyed. And I’m not banished, of course — just not necessary. Somewhere I heard something to the effect that the end goal of good parenting is to make yourself obsolete. I’m in no rush, but, no doubt, on the right track.
