Richmond scored with four seconds left to force overtime and again with 4:01 remaining in the extra stanza to beat the UMass women’s lacrosse team, 19-18, in the Atlantic 10 Tournament championship, Sunday in Fairfax, Virginia.

It marked the second straight year the Spiders claimed the league trophy and the sixth consecutive season the two programs played for the championship title.

UMass led 14-8 after a Kiley Anderson goal with 27:17 left in the second half. The Spiders scored four straight, but the Minutewomen pushed the lead out to 18-14 after two goals from Anderson and two from Haley Connaughton.

Richmond answered with four straight goals to end regulation.

UMass (15-4) set an NCAA single-game record with 30 draw controls. Caitlyn Petro had a career-high and UMass-record 19. The Minutewomen were led by Kaitlyn Cerasi, who scored five goals and added two assists. Anderson notched five goals and tied the UMass single-season record of 67.

Goalie Lauren Hiller made seven saves in her first loss of the year.

Connaughton added three goals and three assists.

Babson 20, Mount Holyoke 9 — Abby Baldwin (Florence) scored the first three goals and finished with four for the Lyons (7-9, 2-6 NEWMAC), Saturday at home.

MIT 15, Smith 8 — Emily Biggs (Florence) scored three goals on senior day and Bella Ferraro added two, but the Pioneers (9-8, 3-5 NEWMAC) fell in the regular-season finale, Saturday at home.

Smith opens the conference tournament at Springfield at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Amherst 12, Bowdoin 9 — Hannah Fox scored six goals, while Claire Dunbar had two goals and two assists as the Mammoths (12-4) advanced to the NESCAC Tournament semifinals with the victory Saturday. Talia Land made 11 saves.

Fiona Bundy (Easthampton/Williston Northampton) scored twice for the Polar Bears (9-7). Bundy finished her freshman season with 40 goals and 14 assists.

New England 24, Elms 10 — Tara Bainbridge (South Hadley) had 11 goals, three assists and six ground balls as the Pilgrims (12-5, 5-1 NECC) closed the regular season on the road.

Springfield 21, Emerson 4 — Kate Sarnacki (Granby) had four goals and three assists for the host Pride (10-6, 6-2 NEWMAC), Saturday.

Softball

UMass 4, Fordham 1 — Quinn Breidenbach fanned two, walked one and worked around six hits as the Minutewomen (23-19, 11-4 Atlantic 10) won at home, Sunday.

Kaitlyn Stavinoha hit a two-run homer and Erin Stacevicz had two hits.

Fordham 6, UMass 3; UMass 11, Fordham 6 — Stavinoha (two hits, four RBIs) hit a two-run homer and Kendra Allen had a solo blast for the Minutewomen in Game 2 Saturday. Hannah Bunker was 3-for-4 and Stacevicz had a pair of hits and RBIs. Stacevicz and Kaycee Carbone each had two hits in Game 1.

Amherst 7, Middlebury 0 — Lorena Ukanwa struck out three, walked one and allowed one over six innings for the Mammoths (19-10, 6-6 NESCAC) on Sunday. Danica Peterson finished the combined three-hitter.

Sammy Salustri and Alyson Plaman each had two hits. Kyra Naftel highlighted a seven-run fifth with a two-run double. Audrey Hansen and Virginia Ryan each had RBI doubles.

Amherst 4, Middlebury 1; Amherst 12, Middlebury 4 — Salustri was 6-for-9 with two RBIs and four runs scored as the Mammoths swept a Saturday doubleheader on the road. Naftel (three runs) and Hansen each had two hits and three RBIs in Game 2.

Baseball

UMass 5, La Salle 2 — Collin Shapiro was 2-for-4 and Eddy Hart had three RBIs as the Minutemen (16-20, 7-8 Atlantic 10) won in Philadelphia on Sunday.

Sean Harney struck out four, walked six and allowed four hits over seven innings for the win.

La Salle 6, UMass 5; UMass 9, La Salle 6 — The Minutemen trailed 6-1 in Game 2 Saturday when Anthony Videtto hit a fifth-inning grand slam to spark an eight-run rally. Logan Greene hit a two-run homer in Game 1. Alec Norton and Luke Oliphant each went 3-for-4 in defeat.

New England 16, Newbury 1 (7); New England 11, Newbury 1 (7) — Evan Delaney (Hadley) was 4-for-4 with three runs, two RBIs and two walks as the host Pilgrims swept Sunday doubleheader. Delaney homered in Game 2.

New England College 8, Elms 1; New England 4, Elms 2 — Delaney had two hits, two runs and an RBI as the Pilgrims swept a Saturday doubleheader at Mackenzie Stadium.

Amherst 1, Bowdoin 1 — The game was suspended after seven innings due to poor field conditions Saturday, and Sunday’s contest was cancelled. Daniel Qin had two hits and Nick Nardone scored for the Mammoths (14-11-1). Andrew Ferrero struck out seven and allowed three hits.

Gettysburg 7, Muhlenberg 6 — Freshman Tim Fay (Easthampton/Williston Northampton) struck out two and allowed one earned run on one hit over five innings of relief to earn his first win in the second game of a Saturday doubleheader for the host Bullets (16-19, 5-12 CC).

Men’s lacrosse

Amherst 23, Bates 9 — Matt Solberg and Evan Wolf each had five goals and one assist as the Mammoths (14-2) rolled in the NESCAC Tournament quarterfinals, Saturday at Pratt Field.

Colin Minicus (five assists), Jack Wolff, Jon Coffey (assist) and James Crovato each scored twice.

Women’s tennis

Middlebury 9, Amherst 0 — The sixth-ranked Mammoths (11-3, 5-2 NESCAC) were swept on the road by the No. 3 Panthers (13-1, 7-0).

Wheaton 5, Mount Holyoke 3 — Catherine Peabody (No. 3), Anya Gerasimova (No. 4) and Annissa Aamoum (No. 5) won their singles matches, but the Lyons (11-10) fell at home Saturday in the NEWMAC Tournament quarterfinals.

Men’s tennis

Amherst 6, Middlebury 3 — Sean Wei and Jayson Fung took first doubles, then won at first and third singles to pace the Mammoths (15-3, 7-1 NESCAC) past the defending national champions, Saturday in Ludlow.

Women’s track & field

NESCAC championships — Christina Scartelli was third in the 5,000 meters (17:52.53) and fourth in the 1,500 (4:44.07) for Amherst, Saturday at Middlebury.

Caroline Sullivan (South Hadley) was eighth in the 10,000 (38:11.37) for Trinity.

Scarlet Bliss (Northampton) was seventh in the long jump (16-8.75) for Tufts.

Williams won and Middlebury was second.

NEWMAC championships — Twins Hannah Rieders (39:46.07) and Madeline Rieders (39:51.14) were first and second in the 10,000 for Mount Holyoke, Saturday at Springfield College. Laurel Kruger was third (39:55.88) for Smith. Emma Yount (Northampton) was sixth (40:19.09) for Wheaton.

MIT was first. Smith finished sixth. Mount Holyoke was seventh.

Men’s track & field

NESCAC championships — Clark Ricciardelli won the 10,000 meters (31:20.66) and the 4×800 relay placed first as Amherst finished third, Saturday at Middlebury. Yaseen Zarroug won the triple jump (45-8.5).

Sage Bailin (Amherst Regional) won the 400 hurdles for Colby in 53.71. He was eighth in the 110 hurdles.

Middlebury was first followed by Tufts.

NEWMAC championships — Aidan Gilson (Northampton) won the 3,000 steeplechase (9:26.31) and Aiden Foucault-Etheridge (Amherst) was third in the 800 for MIT, Saturday at Springfield College.

MIT won with 275 points.

Rowing

NEWMAC championships — Smith (7:01.83) took third in the Varsity 8 race, while Mount Holyoke (7:14.14) took third, Saturday at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester.

Wellesley won the title. Smith was third and Mount Holyoke fourth.

Women’s golf

Jack Leaman Invite — Mina Lee tied for ninth (83-71–154) to pace fourth-place Amherst (642), Sunday at The Ledges Country Club.

Cortney Qiu was 31st (88-80–168) for eighth-place Mount Holyoke (696).

Cordella Chan was first overall (76-71–147) for first-place Williams (597).
