Turkey Tail
Route 9, Belchertown,
Photograph and text by Georgette deFriesse
This turkey tail fungus grows along the path where I walk my dogs every day. It is always eye-catching, but on this afternoon, when the snow had only recently melted away and exposed it, the colors were especially magnificent. It had never before appeared green — this is only the second time I’ve seen green turkey tail fungus — but the blueish grey mixed with the green just blew me away. The natural world offers an ever-changing exhibit of often unexpected beauty, making me want to revisit the same locations again and again. I captured this image with a handheld DSLR using a medium zoom lens.
