WILLIAMSBURG – The Grange Hall in Williamsburg will be the sight of one of the most festive and unique prom celebrations to be held this year on Saturday, May 18. The senior prom is sponsored by the Council on Aging.
COA Director Jennifer Hoffman said that she thought it would be fun to have a fantastic party for elders in Williamsburg and the surrounding towns. That idea soon morphed into a “senior prom” to which people of all ages would be invited.
“Some people remember having a great time at their prom, some may not have attended their prom and others may have never had an opportunity to go,” Hoffman said. “So I thought what the heck, why not have a prom, just to have fun, get out and see people and have a party.”
Those attending the event are encouraged to wear prom attire but it is definitely not required; any spiffed up outfit will do. The only thing organizers prefer is that you leave your jeans at home.
“The prom committee that I have is amazing, and they had a lot of different ideas,” Hoffman said. “We also have a lot of volunteers, including 10 to 15 kids from Hampshire Regional High School and a lot of people who donated food and money for the event.”
Two bands and a DJ will be playing during the evening for everyone’s dancing and listening pleasure. There will be finger foods and non-alcoholic beverages served.
Like most proms, there will be an opportunity for prom pictures. At this event, attendees will be able to have their photos taken against a backdrop representing the time when they graduated high school.
There will also be a fine selection of classic cars on display.
At this prom there will be no king and queen named, but there will be special “best of” awards.
A date is not required and people can attend on their own, with a friend, in a couple or in a group, as long as they are ready to enjoy themselves.
This event is free for anyone over 60, those under 60 are asked to donate what they can. The festivities will go from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. RSVP with the Council on Aging by calling 268-8410.
CUMMINGTON – There will be a tractor ride and barbecue at the Cummington Fair Grounds, Sunday, May 19.
The fairgrounds open at 6:30 a.m. and the ride will depart promptly at 9:30 a.m.
The cost if $25 for the general public for the barbecue and proceeds from the event will go to the Mass Future Farmers of America, the Hampshire County 4H Fair, and the Berkshire County 4H.
