Thea Hanscom threw a three-hit shutout, as the Hopkins Academy baseball team crushed South Hadley, 17-0, in five innings Tuesday.
Hanscom struck out three and walked none. She threw 53 pitches, including 38 for strikes. She allowed singles to Max Garvin, Sean Sears and Gage Provost, South Hadley’s 6-7-8 hitters, respectively.
The visiting Golden Hawks (8-5, 4-2 Hampshire West) broke open a 2-0 game with 11 runs in the fourth inning.
Matt Hanscom, Thea’s eighth grade brother and batterymate, was 4-for-4 with an RBI and four runs scored. Thea Hanscom helped herself with two hits, including a double, three RBIs and two runs.
Andrew Ciaglo was 3-for-4 with six RBIs out of the No. 9 spot in the lineup.
Liam Higgins (two hits, two runs) and Braedyn Tudryn each had two RBIs.
Easthampton 10, Mahar 1 — The Eagles (8-4, 6-0 Hampshire East) led 7-0 after the top of the fourth and never looked back en route to the win in Orange.
Nathan Morse and Liam Burke combined on a two-hitter. Morse struck out three, walked none and allowed one run on two hits over five innings. Burke fanned four in two perfect innings of relief.
Zack Kugler (two RBIs, four runs) had three hits with a double. Matthew Arroyo (three runs), Nick Lloyd (two RBIs, two walks), Morse (RBI) and Ohm Patel (run) each had two hits.
Northampton 10, Central 5 — Patrick Serio had two hits, including a triple, three RBIs and picked up his third win for the Blue Devils.
Hamp (4-9, 3-3 Valley Wheel) scored a season high in runs on a season-high 16 hits.
Devontay Edmonds (3-for-4, double) and Jake Brittain (2-for-3) had two RBIs each.
Dom Badorini and Will Shaw each hit RBI doubles.
Greenfield 4, Frontier Regional 3 (8) — Matt Hildreth singled twice, stole three bases and scored a run, while Kiernan Freeman tripled and scored for the Red Hawks.
Kyle Barnes singled twice.
Gabe Gochinski took the loss in relief, but pitched 5⅓ innings and allowed two unearned runs with two strikeouts and a walk.
Athol 9, Smith Academy 1 — Will Dobson single twice and scored a run for the Falcons (1-10, 0-6 Hampshire East).
Michael Bassett (two walks) and Colin Ferrara (walk) singled.
Sabis 3, Smith Academy 2 — Amanda Novak (two hits) and Abby Pederson singled and scored a run each for the Falcons (6-5, 2-4 Bi-County West).
Maddy Skawski and Erin Gilrein also singled. Novak struck out six.
Central 5, Granby 4 — Kaeleigh Croteau was 3-for-4 and drove in a run in defeat.
Croteau tripled to lead off the bottom of the seventh and the Rams (3-7, 0-4 Bi-County East) had runners on second and third with two outs, but grounded out to end the game.
Meg Ouellette (RBI) and Faith Bergeron (run) each singled twice.
Turners Falls 6, Easthampton 0 — Olivia Downer singled twice, and Tessa Pond had a hit for the Eagles (11-1), who lost for the first time.
Rachael Robinson left in the fourth inning after a ball hit her in the hand. She struck out five in three innings and walked five.
