NORTHAMPTON — A Northampton man is accused of assaulting a busker and stealing from the busker’s tip jar, police said.

Police said officers responded to a report of a disturbance between two men on Main Street on Thursday around 9:30 p.m.

Matthew James Moran, 35, asked a busker outside Thornes Marketplace if he could play with him, police said. When the busker told him their music “wouldn’t mesh,” Moran then allegedly became “combative,” police said.

The busker went into Thornes Marketplace and allegedly saw Moran take money from his tip jar, police said. Moran then allegedly pushed the man in the chest and face. Moran was arrested on charges including larceny and assault and battery.
