EASTHAMPTON — A crash caused by a driver on a cellphone that took down a utility pole left a section of Route 10 temporarily closed Thursday afternoon, police said.
Route 10, which is also Main Street, was closed from Glendale Street to Brewster Avenue.
Around 1:30 p.m. near 231 Main St., which is close to Fleury Lumber Co., the driver was heading northbound when he “looked down at his cellphone, took his eyes off the road, veered to the right and crashed into a telephone pole taking down all the utility lines,” Easthampton Police Lieutenant William Kelly said.
The driver was not injured, Kelly said.
Kelly said he expected the road to reopen Thursday evening.
