I recently had cataract surgery. The entire process involved two separate surgeries, two next-day follow-up appointments, an initial appointment to evaluate my eyes, another to measure each eye with special equipment, as well as an appointment with my primary care physician to clear me for surgery.

Because I have Medicare — what some would call socialism — the two surgeries, the lens implants and the five doctors’ appointments cost me nothing out of pocket. If I had been 64 and not on Medicare, the cost would have been several thousand dollars per eye.

What is it you don’t like about socialism?
