LEVERETT – Two motorists were transported to Baystate Medical Center, one by air ambulance, following a Tuesday evening car wreck.

Leverett Fire Chief John Ingram said that the department responded at around 6:40 p.m. to an accident involving two vehicles on Long Plain Road. Each vehicle had no passengers, and both drivers were seriously injured and transported to Bay State, one by ground and one by air ambulance.

The driver who had to be transported by air ambulance was extricated from their vehicle by the jaws of life.

The accident closed a section the street around 223 Long Plain Road until around 11 p.m.

Ingram said Leverett received mutual aid from two Amherst ambulances and the Shutesbury Fire Department. He also said that Leverett Police and the Massachusetts State Police were on the scene as well and that both agencies are investigating the accident.
