Shaheen Pasha’s last column (June 13, “Where memory lives”) was evocative of memories I could so understand. The bittersweet tone of it all was lulling me into remembering different places I experienced in my childhood and early adulthood.

I am an immigrant. I came to the U.S. — from France — in 1972. Whenever I go back to France, I see so many changes, including the disastrous fire in Notre Dame Cathédrale. I still was reading in that memory induced thinking, until I ran into your sentence, “But soon he will be on the move …”

What? I should have let you know how much I enjoyed reading your columns before today. I’m sorry to see you go, although I hope this will be a move for a better life for you and your family. I am ordering a copy of “Mirror on the Veil” so that I can still have a little piece of you. Best wishes in your new chapter.
