Moved by the US women’s soccer team’s victory

Most people who know me realize that I am not a person who shares her views in a public forum, rather making my point individually or in a small group to those who might benefit from a perspective I have to offer.

That said, I feel compelled to write the following. I am not really a sports fan, preferring to spend my free time among people, pets and plants. While I enjoy soccer, I admit that I only followed the U.S. women’s soccer team in the news until the last game. Yet, I found myself overcome with emotion by the win of the U.S. team.

Lately, I have found myself so disheartened at the direction this country is moving. This is definitely not the direction I marched for in Ohio during the 1970s. I felt with the soccer victory a return to those values and the people who deserve them: women, minority races, LGBTQ people and more. They are who our country is and should be about, not the person who finds himself “in power” over our choices and direction.

So congratulations to the U.S. women’s soccer team and what they represent. Let’s keep their momentum going.
