How much longer will Republicans, both in Congress and out, stand by a president who is so blatantly racist and morally bankrupt?
What Trump said about the four congresswomen needing to “go back to where they came from” should surprise no one. What Republicans have said, or not said, in response should disgust and alarm all of us.
Trump’s words are hurtful and repugnant, and go against the moral foundation on which our country was founded. Yet, it’s worse than that. His words are dangerous. They encourage and enable hatred and violence toward all those who aren’t white. As Nancy Pelosi noted, Make America Great Again has always meant Make America White Again.
Not everyone who supports Trump, in Congress and out, is racist and bigoted. However, their silence about what he has said is deafening, and signifies acceptance. There is no other way to look at that. All Republicans with a conscience and sense of moral decency must speak out now, and reject this type of rhetoric.
