Station Road, Amherst

There’s nothing like having a first hand, up close and personal experience of watching beavers build a dam. I was lucky enough to have a chance at this on the Rail Trail off Station Road in South Amherst when four beavers did just that. There were four of them and I’m guessing they were a family which included two kits being from last year’s litter. They all worked as a team (I call this image “Helping Dad”) and took almost exactly one hour to stop the 5-foot wide flow of water which was escaping the pond. They were fixated on doing their jobs and paid me no mind. I was only about 15 feet or so away and hardly needed the medium-length telephoto lens, which I had on my tripod-mounted DSLR camera, to capture this image.
