The column (“Words matter,” July 5) in Hampshire Life by John-Manuel Andriote makes some very important points, but I wish he had either acknowledged that he was writing mainly about gay men or included information about the evolution of words lesbians have used for themselves.
Once again, “gay” is assumed to be male, and the lesbian experience is basically invisible.
