SOUTH HADLEY — A fisherman was rescued from the Connecticut River early Sunday morning by emergency crews.

Capt. Tom Stark of the South Hadley Fire Department said the man was pulled from the river just below the Holyoke Dam and transported to the hospital, although his condition was unknown as of 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. The fire department got the call around midnight, Stark said.

“We were able to retrieve him and get him out of the water,” Stark said, with the help of the Holyoke and Chicopee fire departments.

Other news outlets reported that the 41-year-old fisherman from Springfield told firefighters he was wearing waders while fishing but fell under the water around 9 p.m.
